Model Number: JEC8430ADS Brand: Jenn-Air Age: 1 - 5 years
I replaced the switch in my cook top and now when I turn it on it stays on high. It will not turn down. Is it possible that incorrect wiring could be the problem?

What is the part number of the new switch?
How did you wire it? Gene.

This switch is for a dual element. What is the element you use it for?
Gene.

OK this switch is for the dual element burner on the right front of the cooktop. I took the cooktop out and checked the wiring.
jumper wire P1 to S1 Black ground to P1 Yellow from burner to #4 White from burner ro #4A Red hot to P2 Red to #2 (this red is connected to a ceramic block on the side of the burner). Black to S2 (light) So thats how I have it wired. I bought the switch a while back and thought everything was OK. My wife didn't us the burner for a while then when she used it she noticed it wouldn't turn down.So it must have been like that to start with because all I did was turned it on then right back off. I might have got a bad switch!!! Thanks Robert |

I removed the jumper wire and the burner works good now. But, the light that tells you the burner is on does not come on when you turn the switch on. I'm guessing the jumper wire has to connect one of the burner wires to the light. I'm going to get my multi meter out and see if I can figure it out.
Thanks for all your help!!! Robert |
