Model Number: JRS04GV1BB Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
Our oven blew the bulb and I replaced it. I noticed it was super bright and within 5 minutes it was blown again. I tried another bulb thinking I may have had a bad bulb and it did the same thing. I took the control panel apart and checked voltages. Everything has 240 volts. The timer, clock, light and the LED letting you know the element is on. Would this be caused by a faulty selector switch or is the themostat the problem? My wife has noticed we have to keep the temperature lower since this happened. If she wants to bake at 400 she has to set the temperature to 350/375 or the food gets overcooked. The oven now runs about 25-50 degrees to hotter than the temperature knob setting.
I get the correct voltage on the incoming line: Red-Black 240, Black-White 120, Red-White 120. While testing if I connect my meter across the clock I can turn on the element LED. The LED quit working at the same time the bulbs started blowing. I'm fairly sure the timer/clock is gone too. The relay is blacken and I can read 120V on the cover but the relay is getting 240 volts. Sounds like a direct short inside the unit somewhere. Due to the price of parts and the age of the unit, I would upgrade to a new unit( & I rarely suggest replacement).
