My GE JGBS23BEW4WH gas oven doesn't work. The oven light works. However, nothing glows, there is no gas smell either. Clock and stove top burners work. Are there things I should try to replace first starting with the cheapest and most probable?

Anyone have a link to a technical guide for this other than the user manual?

This unit is about 15 years old, perhaps I should just purchase another entry level one?

The first thing I would do is check if there is 120VAC to the oven igniter while the thermostat calls for heat.

If there is 120VAC then the problem is a bad igniter.

If there is no 120VAC then the problem is a bad oven thermostat.

- The part number for the oven igniter is AP2020569

- The part number for the oven thermostat is AP2623073

Thanks. I checked it using my Multimeter when I turned it on it read 199.5 V.

One thing I don't understand though is how this works. How does it know to release gas? Right now it's not releasing any at all.

Wow! if your getting 200 volts to the ignitors you have some serious trouble. The gas valve opens when the proper amount of currant draw is obtained from the ignitor if its a round one somewhere around 2.5 amps if it's flat it's a little higher

My apologies I meant 119.5 volts.

Left it on for 15 minutes but no gas released at all.

You can learn how the oven igniter works from one of our previous posts: Oven won't lite?
