Question electric oven
Model Number: GR450LXHQ2   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Hello, I have a whirlpool oven and the bake element and broil element do not work or just stopped workimg. The elements ohm out at 25.1 so I am assuming that they are good. I am wondering if it could be the sensor but how can i check the sensor, or does anyone know what my problem might be

Hi Vin,

First, check the circuit breakers. There are two breakers controlling your oven, make sure neither's tripped. Post back...

Are those breakers located inside the oven? Thanks for your response!

No, the house circuit breaker box. There should be two for the oven, side by side. Usually 40 amp (and 110 volt) each. It's common to have one of them tripped - this will still power up the control but won't be enough to power the elements.

The breakers in my box are connected with a bar across the two so if onr trips the other will also trip unless only one can go bad. is it possible to take the circuit brkr apart to test it or should i just purchase a new one?

I would reset both breakers. Turn them off, wait about 30 seconds, then turn them back on. Don't take anything apart in there.

If the problem is still there, then we need to take a look inside the oven. This will involve using a voltmeter. Do you have one and know how to use it?... I see one fuse in this oven. It's not clear, but the fuse is probably part of the main wiring harness. May be as simple as a bad fuse.

I have turned those breakers off a couple of times now. I don't think its the breaker.

Let me make sure you have all the info. my bake and broil elements are not working. The cooktop elements are woking fine with the exception of the keep warm element when I was going through the buttons on the control panel to see if everything else was working I noticed that when I turned on the keep warm element the light on the switch did not light up and does not get warm. When I turn on the bake (broil) the control panel goes through its motion of telling you the temp and going into the preheat mode but get no heat. When you put it into convection cook the fan works but again no heat.

Yes I have a voltmeter and know how to use it. Is there a fusable link or an actual fuse because I have been inside the back already and did not see any kind of fuse on any of the wires or leads leading to the control panel, but that does not mean that I could have missed it if it was hidden. In any case I will be waiting for your reply. Thanks for your attention in this matter!

Hi VIN

The first thing I would check in such situation is if you have 120V (L2) coming to the control board. As I can see on the wiring diagram it should be a single red wire plugged into the control board.
Remove this wire from the control board and check it for a 120V (between the red wire and the ground).
If there is no 120V then the problem is a fusible link in the wire harness. Locate were is it and replace it. You can buy it in any electronic store.
If there is 120V then the problem is a bad control board which has to be replaced.

- The part number for the new control board (white) AP3083740

- The part number for the new control board (black) AP3083741

- Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool range Model GR450LXHQ2

Good luck.
Gene.

Default How did you fix this Problem

I have the same problem with my Oven. The fan works, warmer does not, and the oven does not heat up. I tried finding the fuse, but could not locate. I really hope it was not replacing the control panel. I put a voltmeter on the red wire coming from the control panel and there was no voltage reading.
