Not knowing your technical experience dealing with electricity its difficult to give you advice. I'd hate for you to zap yourself.

However, if you have an electrical tester, and feel comfortable enough that you won't shock yourself, check to see if you have electricity on both legs feeding the cooktop. If you do, then the problem is internal and you may have to remove the cooktop, after shutting off the breaker, to reach the appropriate connections. Get a good schematic and trace the lines, hopefully its a loose connection that will be a simple fix. If its not, check the make and model number and get the repair parts. Hopefully, someone with more experience will follow-up.

Remember always start simple when problem solving.
