Used 2 days ago but yesterday it wouldn’t heat – tried varied temp settings. :) Smoothtop elements, broiler and 3 hr. self cleaning all work. We’re sr. citizens with no children and haven’t used oven frequently. Thanks in advance.

Lon,

I'm guessing you mean the bake selection doesn't heat ?

Did you look at the element itself , to see if there was any visible damage ?

Do you have a multimeter to check for voltage to the element from the control ?

Part number: AP4101290
Part number: AP4101290

There are several other possibilities, but I would start at the element to

determine wether you have a bad element or broken wire or bad control.

Good Luck,:) :) :)

Thanks. I should have checked the element - will do. Yes I have a meter. You guys are both great and responsive - we couldn't do without you.

Joe, am unable to find a service manual for removing the bottom housing for accessing the element. Must I disassemble the entire cabinet?

Lon,

OK,

Once you circuit test the element, if it checks OK(2500 to 3500 ohms).

Attach your meter leads to the two wires, that you took off the element and program a bake cycle and see if you get 240 volts across the wires, that will tell us wether we need to go up to the control, and check for damaged wires or terminals.

Joe, I ordered a new bake element from APP. The element had a 1" burn-thru! I'm 72 and never had a bake element failure. So much for Maytag quality, esp. since the oven hasn't been used often & is only 5 yrs old.
Thanks.

Lon,

You're very welcome,

We're happy you've got it diagnosed and on the way to repairing and using it.

Good Luck,

Joe - (New element arrived) I removed old element slowly but wires came loose anyway falling behind cabinet. Can I "fish" them out or must cabinet be disassembled? Thanks.
