Hi,
I have a GE Dual Wave II that will not self clean. I have just been living with it, understanding that the old guy is 10 years old. Now, the lower heating element is not working either.

Is it worth fixing? 27" dual microwave/ovens are VERY expensive.

The model # J KP62G0K2

Thanks for ANY repair help on the two issues. I would like to avoid a kitchen remodel (to fit a 30" in the existing cabinets) or a $3300 Kitchen Aid!

Thanks!

Can you see any visible reason why the lower element isn't working, charred area, burned into ? (check the wires in the back connected as well) If so replace the element (part # AP2031031)
Especially if you can live without the self clean.....will try to look into that more.

Thanks for the quick response Nat!

I can see that the element has charred on about 1/3 of one side. I thought it was crusted food but see that it has lost is strength. I am pretty sure it is nuked and have planned to buy another one.

The self cleaning feature would be nice to get back, but we can live without it if I can get this oven to limp along a little longer.

Buy another element and you should be cooking again!

Any suggestions on the non cleaning? It will lock the door and act like it is cleaning, but no heat.

Thanks again!

Without having it checked I'd have to say that part of the control board is out.....I'll try to look at your model again to see if I can tell anything.

FYI.....I never use the self clean on my oven, I still do it the old fashioned way, seems all brands have a problem with the self clean.
