Hi, I have a GE xl44 model # jgbs23bea5wh gas range. The problem is the oven flame is very low. I replaced the ignitor which didn't solve the problem. I thought I would replace the Valve pn# AP3423440 next. I would like to know if the safety valve could cause this problem or what I can do to trouble shoot this problem. Thank you.

Do you use natural or LP gas? Did this just recently start?

I have LP gas. It's been like this for awhile but I would really like to get it working. The oven won't go above about 275

Check your oven burner to see if it has any corrosion in it.

The oven burner looks clean no visible corrosion. This happened fairly quickly. The first time I noticed a problem I was baking at 350 and the oven wouldn't hold and went down to 275-300 even when I turned it up to broil. It has gotten a bit worse since I first noticed the problem. The burner fires up just fine , the flame is even and blue all the way around.

The easiest way is with an ohm meter, testing for continuity. If you are uncertain on how to do this there are several posts on testing components.

Reads about 1.5 ohms - doesn't change much when I rotate the knob. What should the correct reading be between low and high?

Check for continuity of the part. Not an ohm reading.
