Default Weird: Arcing electric oven
Brand: -brand-   Age: Less than 1 year

I have an 11 year old Jenn-Air electric range. Just 10 minutes ago, the kids (kids=16 years old) and was waiting for it to heat up to put in a pizza, they called me over, and the element was arcing with dazzling white light to the metal floor of the oven.

Needless to say, we immediately turned it off.

But I don't quite understand (a) how this could happen (b) what I need to do to fix it.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Tom, please post the model number...

Sounds to me like the bake element has failed. Typically what happens is the coil will burn right through the insulation and short out on the oven body. You did the right thing by shutting the oven down right away. You probably just need a new element, however it's possible that the board is bad (if there is one).

Post the model number and we'll take a look.

It is model FCE30510. Replacing the element looks trivial, if that's all it is.
