Like a firecracker...the red indicator light on our Whirlpool Electric Cooktop (model # rcs3004rs00) just exploded! LITERALLY!

Anyone out there experienced such an issue? Suggestions?

I went ahead & ordered the part, but I'm wondering if maybe I ought to do some troubleshooting prior to installing the new indicator light, so I don't explode it too!

I'm pretty handy with a mulitmeter & Dad's an electrician.

Did someone have a boil over,spillover, or get the cooktop wet, somehow ?

Based on the wiring diagram, I think that is a 240 VAC indicator light.
(no switch circuitry, in diagram).

Do all the burners work ?

You may want to visually check the burner receptacles for damage and the switches and wiring as well, before you install the new light.

Thanks for your response to my question about the exploding indicator light.

I will investigate, like you suggested...before replacing the part with a new one.

I wonder what the easiest way to replace it is...maybe remove the cooktop somehow????...I don't know...never done it before.

It covers several models, including yours, and should get you through the repair pretty easy.

This just happened to my wife and I while cooking dinner. It looks like it tripped the breaker. And I'm scared to turn it back on.

Do you remember what it took to fix your stove? Was it ruined or did you just have to replace the little bulb?

Todd, If the unit shorted and tripped the breaker, this would indicate a short to ground. You'll need to turn the power off, raise the cooktop and check the wiring at the switches and indicator lights to see if you had moisture or water in the wiring,and switches from a "spill over". All these circuits are 220/240 VAC, so be careful, and make sure the power is "OFF" before you start.
