I have prchased the new Potetiometer kit due to no gas to one of the burners. How do I get the top of the cook top open to replace the Kit?

 I have seen this breakdown on many pages but no explanation as to how to get the damn thing open. Is there a hinge and hidden catch, do I remove the nuts at the burners which are so tight I'm afraid of breaking something? One seems to spin and not loosen. What is the trick?
Thanks in advance for your help with this. Kipp

Thanks in advance for your help with this. Kipp You do have to remove the nuts (venturis) at the burners. The problem is - in most cases they are rusted in and you have to cut them off. If you force them, you can easy break the gas tubes connected to the burners. Gene.

Hey Gene thanks for your response, I seem to be having alot of trouble with these nuts. Is there a special tool? If I have to cut the nuts off then how do I get the venturies out? Kipp

You have to use a socket wrench to unscrew them. You can try WD-40 to loose them easier. If it would not help, then you have to hacksaw the frozen brass nut off the venturi. Be advised that because the brass nut is a part of the venturi, most of the time it is not possible to remove the bottom part of the venturi from the jet holder. You'll have to replace such jet holder too. Gene.

Thank you Gene for your response, I think I'm at the cutting off point. I only hope I have enough of the venturi to get a pipe wrench on it. I have a tool for woodworking made by "Fine" which with a metal blade I think I can get a cleaner cut without marking up the base ring so much. Dremel and Bosch make one too. Give one a try on your next job like this. You have a lot of control with these tools, not like a sawsall. Too bad the design isn't better for parts replacement. I think I'll be about halfway to a new cooktop by the time this is over. Cheers
