In removing the ignitor the wire shorted against the stove. No current will now flow through the ignitor. In our tests the safety valve seems to have been damaged. Is this correct or should we look for another part. Thank you.

You should first check and make sure you have voltage from the control to the igniter itself. (We normally dont reccomend voltage checks). You may have shorted the control contacts.

Hopefully and most likely, You shorted the switch inside the safety valve(oven burner valve). And it will need to be replaced.

Insure that the power has been turned off (or the unit is unplugged) when doing circuit checks, removing parts, or checking wiring.
