I have an electric Kitchen Aid double oven made by Whirlpool, Model number KEBI271YBL1, about 13 years old. We had a bad storm last week, lightning struck a tree right by the house, completely blew out my sprinkler timer and irrigation pump relay. Inside the house, two fluorescent lights in the same fixture were dead (in the kitchen - only 2 months old), a ground fault 20 amp breaker for my jacuzi is now bad, and my Kitchen Aid electric oven is completely dead. I checked the circuit breaker for the oven - it is good, and I followed the circuit to the oven junction box, and up to the oven. There is power up to the control panel. From there, I am stumped. Is there a fusable link or thermal fuse anywhere for this model oven? If not, how can I tell if it is the control board or perhaps the membrane switch short of replacing these expensive parts at random? Any advice gratefully revieved. thanks.

Hi Dennis,

The first thing I would check according to the wiring diagram is the thermostat (aka thermodisc), #20 on the break down diagram, and replace it if it's open.

If there is nothing wrong then the control board is bad and has to be replaced.

- The part number for the thermostat is AP3095457

- The part number for the control board is AP2926048

Here are the break down diagrams for the Kitchen Aid oven Model KEBI271YBL1

Thanks. Just a quick question though; if the thermodisc is out, would this prevent the oven lights from coming on? Do the lights come on whenever the oven door is open, or do they have to be turned on? I don't remember. Thanks again.

Dennis,

Looking into the wiring diagram I do not see any other power source for the oven lights but the control board.
