My GE oven control/clock panel was beeping and turning the oven off and on. This went on for 6 months. Then one day the bake element burned in half and shot sparks every where. So, I replaced both with GE parts. The bake and broil did not work when put it all back together, about 20 mins later the bake element started working, then the broil as well. I turned the temp up and down, off and on, every thing was working perfectly. I tried it again this morning and again NOTHIng! I set the temp and I hear a click, temp shows 100 and never climbs. Please help me we have been with out a range for 4 weeks now and microwave dinners are getting very old. Thank you so much Mike Saylor.

Mike,

Most likely the problem is a bad control board (aka a clock). Unfortunately this part has been discontinued and is no longer available.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for General Electric JSP34AV1AA Electric range | AppliancePartsPros.com

Bad high limit switch ... Installed one of the same heat range and it works great...You can still get the clock/control panel from wholesalers as of right now, just not directly from GE.

I have the Maytag MES5870AAB but similar symptoms where the lower element will not heat up but Broil works fine. The fan (not the convection one) but the one that comes on whenever the oven was on, doe snot come on now when in "Bake".

Same clicking sound when I turn it on but the lower element won't heat up.

So recap:
Bake: Lower Element does not heat
Convect: Lower Element does not heat / Upper Element heats
Broil: Upper element heats

How do I check the High Limit to see if that's the culprit? Should I even bother?:(

OH YEA...... I changed the control board about 5yrs ago because of an "F?" problem. (Can't remember which F code it was)

Any help would be appreciated.

Some additional info from my debugging.

I tried swapping the Blue (Bake Element) wires with the yellow (Broil Element) wires. Results were:

While trying the Bake: The Broiler Element heated up.
While trying to Broil: The Bake Element did NOT heat up.

This seems to be telling me that it's not the relays on the board and has to be down stream like the High Limit switch or Element itself. Yes? No?

Off to do more debugging to see if I can narrow it down more.

Tested the High Limit switch while everything was unplugged and it reads as a closed switch.
Plugged oven in and read 120V to grnd on either terminal (closed switch)

Then checked connection on baking element......only to find that one had fallen/burnt/broken off. Not sure why but will investigate the "Why" before just fixing it and plugging it back in.
