my mother in law just moved into a house with a gas oven and range. Its looks fairly new, it is a whirlpool, the oven doesn't light, The igniter glows a bright orange and gets so hot i cant put my hand near it for very long, and if i tap just below the (excuse me im not familiar with gas appliances), the thingy that the gas runs through, you know where the fire shoots out, if i tap there then it will light, if it does light good, i mean to the point it doesnt fizzle right away then it willonly stay lit for a while, i mean sometimes the oven seems to work so is this just a cycle that it runs through or is something broke, also sometimes i can smell gas, when it doesnt get hot, also if it is broke then what is wrong, is it the valve or is it the igniter, or is it something else.
