Default Oven turns on ny itself
Model Number: JVM1790SK01   Brand: GE   Age: 1 - 5 years

I have a GE Profile Convection Microwave Oven that turns on by itself. When that happens, none of the controls work. I can only stop it by pulling out the plug.

The oven takes a long time baking using the convection option.

Does it start all by its self when it’s sitting idle without using it?
Or does it do this in the midst of –or shortly after usage?

When it starts by itself what does the display do (or what does it show)?
Does it count down – or does it just show the time of day?

Yes, it does seem to happen shortly after using it. When it turns on by itself, the display shows the time.l

The next time it does this "dont open" but rather
slightly pull and push on the oven door while it runs
does the unit shut off? If not then try shutting it off by
opening the door.

We tried opening and shutting the door but that didn't help. None of the controls worked. The only thing that we were able to do to shut it off, was pull out the plug.

I am having the same problem with an LG over the range microwave. The vent will just turn on by itself when its not being used. The only way to turn it off is to unplug it. None of the controls wotk and opening and shutting the door doesnt help.We are not cooking when this happens and have even woken up in the morning to find it running. ve had repairmen out and all have different ideas but not one pat answer.

It was running with the door open?

I have read numerous account of GE built-in microwaves that "turned on by themselves" and eventually caught fire. 7 of them in the state of FL resulted in extensive fire damage to a home. At least one of these microwave ovens was recalled by GE. look up consumer reports GE microwaves to find out more, or contact GE directly to find out if your model is one of the models that has been recalled. If it's not, contact them anyway to tell them about it (although, from the reports I read, they know full-well about these problems and pretend that they don't). Many of the reports said the problem was a faulty "magnetron"... it was leaking and causing sparking, which led to fire. Try citing that as the problem and see if they'll fix it for you.

Some areas that would needed to be looked at are,
Door interlock switches or there could be a fault
within the control panel itself.
