Thumbs down 2006 kenmore microwave light bulb needs replacing
Model Number: 721.66319   Brand: Kenmore   Age: 1 - 5 years

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to read my question.

I received my Kenmore microwave as a Christmas gift in 2006. My light has gone out of it inside. It's a table-top model. I tried to figure out where the light bulb is to replace it but I could not figure it out so I called Sears. They said since I didn't purchase a extended warranty that they can't help me or either I pay over 100.00 for service. This is a microwave...a small microwave that it would be crazy to pay for a service call when I could get another microwave at probably the same cost.

I just want to replace a simple light bulb. Nothing in the manual talks about this at all. It's a maintenance issue not something that should be covered under a warranty. Geez.

Is the only way I can replace is go thru Sears and pay an arm and a leg. I'd really rather do it myself. It's not my fault they made it difficult for owners to do and want to charge. What a racket.

I looked on the back of the unit and evidently I'd need specail tools to remove casing. Why o why did Sears/Kenmore make a microwave where it's a major issue to replace a simple bulb and why is the heck did it go out in just over a year? This is crazy.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, you have to remove the casing to access the lamp and probably you'd need a special tools to do it. This is a way all counter-top microwaves made and it's done for consumers protection.

If you are still willing to do it, I would recommend to remove the old lamp and take to any hardware or electronic supply store to match it up.

Gene.

Thanks Gene. Come to find out after calling Sears again is that the part is 59.00. I don't have the special tool and I'm not willing to pay for someone to install a 59.00 halogen bulb. The darned thing should not have gone out when unit is just over 1 year. Who is going to pay that much money to fix a bulb every year or so on a microwave? Not me. I'll cook in the dark.

Thanks for your response.

I highly recommend that no one ever buys a Kenmore microwave.
