I have a GE Spacemaker Microwave oven, model HVM 1540 and the fan does not shut off automatically after the microwave turns off. Even when it is cold and after a short 30 second microwave cycle the fan goes up in volume and speed and won't shut off until 6, 7, 8 "push fan" cycles (hi, lo, off). Many times it won't shut off at all and I have to "pull the plug". What is the problem and can I do it myself? Lately the light is doing the same thing. Thanks very much!

I have the same model and it will not shut off, no matter what button I push. I have to leave the door open or unplug it. Would be interested to see a response for this, too.

Hi Matt,

Sorry for the delay.

I'm assuming you are talking about the hood fan. This fan controls by the microwave control board which most likely is the culprit.

In your case sounds like the problem is a cooling fan. You may want to check the upper and lower door switches (#1446 on the diagram).
