Maytag Microwave from 2003 MMV5156AAS
Replaced LG Magnetron (Labeled 2M214 161GP 0311 - 024608) with a Magnetron (Labeled 2M214 01TAG G1603 - 300609).

Aside from the difference in numbers (I don't know if that makes any difference at all) the bottom attached to the microwave unit differently. The original had two prongs on opposing sides, one set faces the front and the other rear. It used 4 screws to mount. The new magnetron has a bar with 3 holes that mount to the left and right of the unit. because of the set up, I am only able to secure one side of the magnetron to the microwave. I am concerned this is letting out some microwaves and electricity to power the exterior light.
Here are a couple videos of what's happening:

Full Power

50% Power

Original Magnetron is the first picture below.

New Magnetron is the second picture below.

How contained do the microwaves need to be? Do I need to be concerned with radiation since the new part isn't secured on both sides?

Any advice or help as to what is going on? Thanks.

if you can't mount it correctly it's the wrong magnetron. it needs to be securely attached to the magnetron wave guide,if not it will cause problems and fail soon.

They have them here for $172.47.

i found some on Epay and Amazon . There is word filter here so I can't link to epay. You'll just have to search. The 2M214 is the type and the 161 GP is the mounting plate and terminal location ( I think).

So, it's the wrong magnetron. Is there anything else that could be causing the short?
