Model Number: GMC305PDQ2 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
I believe I need to replace the magnetron. Can someone direct me to some directions on how to get at it. I need some directions before I purchase a new one.
The microwave shuts down in 3 sec , but if I put it a 0 power it will run forever. I read here that it may be RF leakage from the magnetron Thanks for your help MikeB. Ads By Google Related Models |

OK, so the symptoms are: microware runs and heats for 3 sec and then shuts off as if the door was opened. If the microwave is on 0 power, it will run forever. It is only when the magnetron kicks in that the unit will turn off
I replaced all 3 door switches and the magnetron. I checked the magnetron thermal switch and it is good. I am tired of throwing parts at this thng, but what else could it be. Next I was going for the capacitor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks MikeB. |

Hi.
Did you check if the magnetron fan is working? Also, check the cavity and magnetron thermal fuses when the microwave stops working. If everything check out OK - then most likely it's the relay in the control board. Thank you. Simon.

Simon - Thanks for the reply. Yes, the blower motor is working. I did verify the magnetron thermal cut-off is working (actually cuts off at about 170F - 180F Vs the 145F per spec). I did not verify the cavity thermal cut-off.
What would cause the relay to cut out? Most relays will fail to pick or fail to release. In this case, it will pick for 3 sec and then release. Also, it seems that after I have worked on the unit, when I first power it up, all is good. I have run the unit for 10 mins w/o any issues (I put a few cups of water water in the microwave and it heats up just fine) It is the next day that it starts acting up again. Thanks MikeB. |
