I've experienced the same problem with my GE SpaceSaver and I think I've isolated it to an interior paint chip. The paint acts as isolator from the walls. Not certain how it became chipped, but I'll assume it was company I had that was always removing the metal shelf.
Anyhow I placed a large glass coffe mug filled with water in front of the chipped area along with another cup filled with water too and turned the Microwave on again. The oven does not fail.
If you don't 'spot' any paint chip then this is not your problem - sorry I wasted your time.
Good Luck!

I just experienced the 3 seconds and shut off problems. The model is JVM1650WB008. What I found was directly behind the control panel mounted on the bottom plate is a temp sensor that read 120. I jumped that sensor and the problem resolved. I replaced the sensor and have had no problem since.

The problem is your magnetron tube is leaking RF. The mag tube comes on 2-3 seconds after you hit start, and the RF interfears with the board and shuts it down. Drop the front of the control panel down and watch, it wont happen.. Get a new mag tube put in and you'll be good to go.

As abadfish66 said in the previous post the problem is a bad magnetron leaking RF.

- The part number for the magnetron is AP2025937

Gene.
