GE Microwave starts when door-open button is pressed
Brand: GE Age: Less than 1 year
Hi. I'm not sure if this is a big deal or not, so I thought I would ask the experts.
I have a GE sensor micorwave (model JES1456WJ05). It was made in March 2011 (11 months ago). We bought it last summer.
I noticed that when I depress the door opening panel/button, the microwave sounds like it is starting, for that split-second it takes for the door to open. Today I experimented, and found that indeed, if I push the button in slowly, I get to a point where the microwave does indeed start. If I hold the button at that point, the microwave runs - with no instructions for what power level, or for how long... Is this supposed to happen? I would have thought the door-open button (which I never really liked - it seems cheap) would have a fail safe - that it would automatically shut down the microwave if it is even partially pressed. Instead, it looks like mine turns on if the button is partially pressed.
So, should I be taking this microwave back? I don't remember what the warranty is, but we've had it less than 7 months, and regardless, this seems like a safety design flaw, not a wear & tear situation.
Thanks for any advice/help.
Kevin
