Default Won't heat
Model Number: KCMS2055SSS-1   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
We bought this microwave 3/25/08 when we were remodeling our kitchen. I use it often and have had no problems. I used in on Saturday, July 4th and it worked fine. Later that evening when I was reheating some things, it would not heat. Everything else works. The turntable revolves, the light comes on and it sounds like it is running but it will not heat. We have unplugged it and plugged it back in and tried to heat a bowl of water. Still nothing. Do you have any ideas?

The problem could be a bad door switch or a bad control board. In order to perform the troubleshooting you have to have a simple multimeter.

Remove the microwave from the cabinet, remove the outer case and check the door switches for continuity as described in the Tech sheet.

If there is nothing wrong then disconnect the wires from the high voltage primary windings and check for 120 VAC between those wires while the control calls for heat and the door is closed.

If there is no proper voltage then the control board has to be replaced.

If there is 120 VAC then the magnetron is a culprit.

Post the results and we'll help you with the correct part numbers.

Gene.

I checked the voltage across the primary lines(wires where still connected to trans) of the transformer while calling for heat. 120 volts was present.
Is this a good indication that the heating unit is bad.

The wires must be disconnected otherwise the test result is inaccurate.

Ive also already replaced the magnetron and rectifier. Anything else i should look at before spending $130 on a new control board?

Mine is a maytag MMV5186AAW. The power doesn't seem to be getting out of the control board to the transformer.

I think this is the control board i need...
