Model Number: JMV8166BAS Brand: Jenn-Air Age: 1 - 5 years
Every Time We Have A Power Outage, Jenn-air Microwave Will Not Turn On. Electrical Receptacle And Panel Breaker Are Good. Sometimes Disconnecting And A 10 Count Then Reconnecting To Electrical Receptacle Is All It Takes. Other Times We Have To Wait 24 Hours Before This Works. Any Suggestions Or Thoughts?

Maybe a surge protector will help with future power outages causing problems.

Most microwaves already have a built-in surge protector on their control circuit boards.
But if your power line is noisy, or takes a lot of surges or slightly high power conditions, it can fail to stop all surges and spikes over time. I would first measure your AC outlets at several different points throughout the home. They should all be about the same, in the range of 110-125VAC. If some vary significantly, you may have a poor connection in a neutral line, which can cause some odd failures (like light bulbs not lasting very long) and even lead to a fire. If so, contact a competent electrician. It could also be a failing connection somewhere in the path between the power cord and the circuit board's low voltage transformer. That path will take you through the noise filter board, thermal cutouts (aka TCOs or thermostats) and finally to the board. There should be a technical sheet hidden behind your grille or controller. We have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes. For your convenience, the technical sheet is at our site here, and the full service manual is here. Parts can be ordered from the Pros here. |
