Default Keypad leak
Model Number: JE1540WV 002   Brand: GE   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
My parents have an older GE microwave mounted in the cabinet. The unit for years would turn on by itself a couple of times. Recently, the microwave keypad started to leak some sort of fluid and the unit no longer works. Has anyone ever witnessed this and what part might need replaced. It matches the other appliances in the kitchen and we'd like to save her. Thanks in advance.

I never seen or heard such things before. You have to remove the microwave from the cabinet, remove the outer case and check what is going on inside. Possible something was spilled in the cabinet on top of the microwave? Post the results.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for GE JE1540WV02 | AppliancePartsPros.com

Gene.

Thanks Gene. My mother reported that something leaked out. I will question to clarify the issue. I appreciate it.

I just called her. She says she was not using the microwave at all. She claims it was making a "humming" noise and she saw a gel type of substance, clear in color, slightly thicker than water but definitely not water.

Must be the keypad right? or is there something behind it that could have caused this?

There are no any kind of liquids in microwaves. Can you check the microwave yourself?

Gene.

I will. Thanks Gene. The next steps are to start tearing it apart and taking a peek inside. I'll be back on later for more assistance. Thanks very much so far.
