First off, this is a great site and thank you to all the pros that lend a hand here. You already saved me from pulling my hair out with my GE side-byside (Bad defrost element) and now, not a month later, my GE microwave has decided to semi croak.

I had been heating a large bowl of soup for the family on high power which was taking a while, 15-20 min. I wasn't in the kitchen, so I don't know when the unit started acting weird, but on one of my trips out I noticed that it was much more quiet then usual, like it was on some low speed setting or something.

I thought maybe I'd overheated it and unplugged it and went off to a meeting to let it cool. When I got home I put a cup of water into it and cranked it up. At first it sounded completely normal, but after about 5 seconds it again sounded like it was struggling. It did heat the water slightly.

I thought it might be the fan and to keep from burning it up I unplugged it and took it down out of the mount and into the garage. Got the front panel off and looked at the fan, it looked like it was running ok, but it obviously still wasn't right and still sounded like it was in 'low power' mode.

I haven't had time to check any further, but if its heating the water, then the magnetron should be ok, yes? From what I have been reading, I suspect the HV Diode, but my symptoms don't exactly match up with what I've read, although they are close.

Thanks again all!
