The touch pad on our microwave has been acting up. Sometimes it works fine. Sometimes the clock/timer is blank. Sometimes the clock/timer wants input but the touch screen does not respond. Sometimes we hear a beep in the middle of the night as it goes from working fine and displaying time to asking you to input the time.

I assume I need to replace something. If you look at the part list here http://www.********************...**.com/model-display.php (type in JVM290WV001) I can see two likely suspects - the touch pad and the board:

1654 WB27X1043 KEY PANEL ASSEMBLY-WHT

1655 WB27X1040 SMARTBOARD
Any suggestions? I got a quote of $450 to repair. We're about a year away from a kitchen remodel, so I'm trying to get it work again as cheaply as I can. Is this something a handy weekend warrior can do?

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,

According to your descriptions the touch pad is definitely bad, but your statement regarding the display sometimes going blank makes me think that the control board can be bad as well.

- The part number for the white key panel assembly is AP2026277

- The part number for the control board is AP2026274

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for GE JVM290WV01 | AppliancePartsPros.com

Thanks, Gene. I'm thinking it might make sense to try the touchpad first, then the controller? Or vice versa. What do you think?

The touch pad definitely is the first try.
