I have a GE Profile Spacesaver XL1800 Microwave (6yrs old) and last night I tried to pop some popcorn and I received a "Senor Error" message as soon as I turned it on.

The microwave started to smoke, smelled funny, and then made an almost grinding noise in the area of the exaust fan while it was running.

I quickly turned it off, but then later, I tried using the microwave on the normal time heating and it works perfect. No sparks, no smoke, no smell, heated food.

I then tried a second bag of popcorn and microwave turned on, made "grinding" noise again and when I pulled down the exaust fan at the top, I saw a few little sparks.

Can you tell me if I need to replace the microwave? Call GE (don't really want to), or is this something that I fix myself - could you offer assistance?
