Default GE Advantium noise
Model Number: SCA1000Dww03   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

My GE Advantium 120 started to make a noise like there was a motor spinning but there was no air movement from the vent. The vent hi/low works fine and the noise is still there when using the vent fan. I can make the noise go away when I use the warm/reheat button for a couple of seconds low power, either moist or crisp setting. When I cancel the cook time the noise stops for a few minutes. Maybe 10 minutes? Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

MicrowaveDisplaycom is on a distinguished road
Default

It may be your convection fan running due to a failed thermistor.

"The convection fan is used to gently circulate
warm, heated air from the heating elements
throughout the oven and around the food. The
convection fan will always operate when Oven/
Bake, Speedcook, or Warm/Reheat modes are
selected. It will also operate at various times
during microwave use to assist in removing
excess heat from the oven."

Have your ever had F1 or F2 errors on the display?

F1 is Oven cavity thermistor open
F2 is Oven cavity thermistor shorted

"F1 - When cooking in Oven/Bake or
Speedcook mode, the main PCB will monitor
the thermistor output after 20 minutes of
operation. If the thermistor does not read a
temperature of 165 F or greater, then an F1
fault code will signal, and operation will
terminate. If a large cold load is being cooked,
the thermistor may not reach the needed
165 F within the 20-minute time period, thus
the main PCB will read this information as the
thermistor not responding and will display the
F1 code. If the consumer reports an F1 fault
code, it will take an extended amount of time to
duplicate."

Maybe you can put about a cup of water in it and set it Speekcook or bake at about 250 for about 30 minutes.

While a microwave should never be left running unattended under any circumstances (as your owner's manual will tell you) it's even more important when one is exhibiting a failure or any odd behavior.

So play it safe and stay with it while it's running for this test!

Let us know if any error code occurs or anything else unusual.
