wont heat anything after 2 1/2 min. loud hum stops when food stops heating. no codes.turntable spins.light is on.

yes works fine as long as you dont use too long.no frozen vegies stops heating after 2 1/2 maybe 3 min at most. i heard a loud bang once right before this started to happen.

Does the display go off when it stops?

Check the cooling fan (#16 on the break down diagram).

display stays on.i think thermal limit is shutting off the magnetron.is the cooling fan supposed to run all the time the microwave is working?

The cooling fan suppose to run wherever the magnetron runs. If it does not then the magnetron will overheat and the TCO will shut the power to the high voltage transformer off. That's probably what happened with your microwave.

how does the cooling fan motor come out? does the bottom unscrew off cabinet?

You probably have to remove the microwave from the cabinet and remove the outer case.
