Model Number: JE2160SF03 Brand: GE Age: 1 - 5 years
While heating some food the power went out. The breaker in my garage was tripped so I reset it but still no power. I removed the cover and foudn fuse blown so replaced it with 250V 20A fuse. After using it a few times it powered off again while heating something up. Any ideas what could cause the fuse to blow while it's heating something up?

After replacing the fuse a few times it now blows immediately when openning the door. I also just replaced some door switches, AP2024331, AP3186054, and AP2024332 but does not help. Any suggestions? Seems like it's something with the door but I'm not sure what else to replace.

Since the fuse or breaker blow was during door action, (a) it is door switch related, but if it's not just the switches as a cause, they may be an effect, and the problem may be damaged or sticky / greasy door switch mounts, and (b), it's best to replace the monitor, primary, and secondary interlocks since in such cases.
The current that blew the fuse or breaker passed through all of them and stressed them. See this help file on door switches. Most door switch trouble is caused by opening the door while cooking (instead of hitting the "Stop" pad first) and slamming the door. It's best to unplug the oven, remove the outer cover, then look behind the controller area to see if you can find the technical sheet. It may be elsewhere, such as in an envelope on the inside of the outer cover. The technical sheet will tell you which switch is which (or which switch is a witch!). If your model uses a switch as a primary and a cook relay secondary (or vice-versa), then it's best to replace the monitor switch, the primary/secondary switch and the cook relay, but you'll have to get it or a cross elsewhere or have a servicer do it. You can find exploded views and order parts from the Pros here. If you still have fuse or breaker blows several seconds after you hit "Start" (not instantly after) then I would suspect a bad high voltage transformer or magnetron. SOMETIMES that can be a failing (intermittently shorting) high voltage capacitor, but usually they will blow the fuse instantly because they short and stay shorted. Your technical sheet may tell you what parts incorrect AC current draws should lead you to suspect. Good luck. |
