Microwave turntable turns erratically

Model Number: 721.80012401 Brand: Kenmore Age: Less than 1 year

Turntable turns in fits and starts--does not seem to make a difference if the load is places on the outer parimater or in the center. The unit is slightly out of level--about 1/16 " front to back--Would this effect the operation?
The unit replaces a GE mounted identically as this one which operated without complaint for about 25 years.. any advice would really be appreciated--Thanks--Mel
