I have a microwave that sparks when it heats and it has burned a spot on the top of the mica canopy. I took it apart and removed the magnetron, which shows some evidence of sparking at the tip closest to the mica canopy. I think the problem is the magnetron, but, since it is such an expensive piece, I'd like some input prior to ordering. When the oven was operated, it only sparked occasionally and a slight "bump" to the case would stop the spark. The problem continued and became more acute until the spark was continuous and a heavy bump did no good. I thought I might find something loose, but everything appeared to be in order inside. Could there be another likely source for the problem such as the high voltage transformer? Is there a way I can test?
