Model Number: KEMC307KBL Brand: Kitchen Aid Age: 1 - 5 years
I have a KitchenAid Superbra combo microwave/oven and my daughter cooked some noodles without water and it left a horrible smell. I left the door open and then decided it would be good if I could turn the light off to keep it from burning out. With the door still open, I flipped the white plastic pieces back that hook to the door, but the light didn't go off. When I went to pull the pieces back forward and I stuck the tool I was using in the right side, the light flickered and went out, but the piece flipped back in its correct position. Now when I close the door and push a button, the microwave won't start and the "door" message comes on. Now we can't figure out how to get to that piece. We've removed all the screws on the face plate but can't remove it. Are there any instructions on how to do that? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks! |

Sounds like a door switch or door switch mount, or possibly a broken door hook (latch head) or mount.
We have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site Nationwide Microwave Oven Display Repair - Sharp Dacor GE G.E. General Electric etc. If the broken part is inside the door, you will have to take that apart, but we do not recommend taking it off. You normally would use putty lnives (or butter knives) to pop out the choke cover and that reveals the hidden screws. Then the door panels will separate. If the broken part is inside the microwave, then you willl have to unplug it, remove the screws holding the grille, then remove the screw in top of the control panel frame. Next you lift the control panel assembly up and out of the way. Then you can see the switches and mounts. ![]() |
