The microwave work fine except for the heating part. Everything else seems functional. The clock did not reset or anything like that. The operator at the time thought they may have heard a pop when it happened, but he is not sure because he was not standing in the room when it happened?

Here is what I have heard:
Magnetron Tube
Diode

It seems the mag tube is the most popular answer, but what else could it be and how would i test for this so that I can be sure I know exactly what the problem is? Thanks in advance for any help

There is really nothing else, electrical odor + no heat = mag tube and diode replacement :) try not to make things more difficult than they really are, you'll drive yourself crazy...

is the diode in the mag tube or is it something separate. It appears that there is a diode that looks like it is going to the ground on the shield of the microwave, is this what you are referring to.

Yes, it's seperate. The diode comes off the capacitor and attached to ground.

Sounds good, I think that is what I was talking about before. I guess the next question should where would I look to order the mag tube and the correct diode? Thanks again for the help.

Remember to unplug the machine and discharge the capacitor before you stick your hands up in there!

I unplugged it, what is the method for discharging the capacitor? Also where can I go to find parts for this microwave. I am in need of the mag tube and diode. Thanks

Unplug the oven. Carefully remove the wires connected to the capacitor, remembering where they belong. take one of the short wires and attach it to one of the cap terminals. Touch and hold it to the other terminal. I just leave it attached to both terminals as long as I'm working, even though it's overkill.
As for the parts: I believe you can order them from this website.

is there a way to know if it is either the diode or the mag tube? That way I don't have to purchase both parts? Thanks
