Model Number: RM288PXP Brand: Whirlpool Age: More than 10 years
The control panel seems to be working fine. I can select cook cycle and seconds and the timer will count down and triple beep when complete. I have checked all the door switches and they seem to be good. I have checked ohm readings on the 20 amp fuse and the thermal fuses and they seem to check OK. I am puzzled as to why the microwave refuses to radiate even though all these areas have been checked to be operational. What other parts could cause the microwave not to heat if the parts I described are in good working order? What other checks should I do and what other parts could be the culprit? I checked circuit board and there are no burn spots or evidence of bad components. in addition, I have viewed all parts such as transformer and magnetron and not able to see any visual problems.

I have mechanically checked and visually inspected the switches one by one and unless there is an internal problem with the switch itself, I think it may be something else. Each switch makes full contact and is fully depressed when the door is closed. I am able to see and hear each switch fully connect. I would be willing to go get a new switch, but it appears they are working fine.
Could the problem be traced to the HV capacitor or the HV diode? |

abdfish66,
I wanted to let you know that I fixed the problem. I was resting different resistors and capacitors on the circuit board and noticed that a square yellow box near the transformer appeared to have one pin that did not appear to be soldered correctly. So I cleaned the pin and resoldered the pin. The microwave know works perfectly. I wanted to thank you for your assistance even though it was not the switches. Thanks for responding Ted |

HI threre. I think I have the same problem, but am not as technically inclined as this poster. How can I check/verify it is just the door switch? Everything on the machine works fine (fan, light, timer).
Should I be looking for something? THanks |
