Microwave Repair

Microwave oven (2.2 cf) turns on upon opening door. Otherwise works really well. My husband and I took it apart and figured out that there's a little plastic part within the door that if pushed-in when the door is open, shuts off the oven. However, the part does not seem to be broken, nor does there appear to be a missing spring within the door/part.
Is this a problem that lay folks can work on? thanks

I am having the same problem and am trying to locate free "exploded View" and Schematic Diagrams for it before I open it up. Can anyone out there help me?

Note: I don't think the magnetron is operating with the door open just the light, turntable and fan. I placed a cup of cold water in it when the door was open and apparently running. I left it for 5 minutes; it did even not get warm.
