microwave melts its plastic pegs

A couple months ago, two of the four plastic pegs that hold the rack inside the microwave broke. They were partially melted. I replaced them. Yesterday, one of those plastic pegs broke, and it was also partially melted. What is causing the plastic pegs to melt? Could it be that the metal rack is getting hot? Do I need to order a new rack as well as new pegs?
