Default Microwave Display/numbers/Timer/ Just quit working
Model Number: HVM1540DN1WW   Brand: GE   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

The buttons to set the time to cook quit working. I can how ever turn on the vent or lights. Just can not cook anything. Makes me wonder could it be a door switch. I just bought the thing last year. Funny thing is until this happened I never noticed how dependent I actually was on microwaves.

You have a failed membrane keypad.

On this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so you could just order the control panel frame assembly which comes with a new keypad.

In this case, you simply move your circuit board into the new frame. That is a simple do-it-yourself job.

It is part number WB56X10817 and you can get it here for $97.40 (compared to $151.00 from GE!).

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order other parts via that link, too.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

Let me know if I can help further.

Thanks,

I found it was better to replace the microwave so I bought me a new one.

Thanks slick rick.

William can you give me your thought's? I think it's about a $100 part and a 10 min fix? Seems easier than $250 or so for a new one and removing and reinstalling a new one when i can just replace the control pannel? Only about a year and a half old.
Thanks much!

Yes, I'd say you have a failed membrane keypad.

I would refer you back to my long reply above.

Your exact part number will depend on your full model number, which you have not posted yet.

But either way, you can find the part and exploded views at the link in my above response.
