The plastic piece is definately 8. Not sure about 7, I'll have to check again.

I've seen the bit about the liquid in the top a couple places today but I've not seen any...

I should clarify something... the metal clip I've got isn't really 1/2" thick. It's maybe 1/32" thick.. but about 1/2" TALL (the direction extending down the agitator shaft.. not the thickness...
