I was struggling with this too. In my GE, there is a plastic lens covering the light bulb. I squeezed it, and it came out. Under the lens, there are 2 screws in the top of the back panel.

Thanks to this forum, I was able to determine my defrost problem, and def heater replacement. The local parts dealer provided a new dual element GE part# WR51X10101, packing date 8/31/09....
