Default Trane unit working properly, but not blowing cold air
Model Number: TWR036C100A2   Brand: -brand-   Age: More than 10 years

Just had the unit serviced a few weeks ago and repair person said we were low on freon; he "topped it up" and it was working great until yesterday.

After inspection, unit is coming on and blowing, but the air is not very cold at all. The service person made comment about the capacitor being corroded and a burn mark on one of the switches (looks like it was shorted out at one time by mistake, possibly a discharge from the capacitor). I cleaned the contacts on the switch just in case it was not making contact, but still no cool air...

Last item of note, there was a red wire that was disconnected (I'm assuming it is the test wire). According to the spec sheets, it sounds like it's supposed to be connected to the "NORM" pin on the circuit board, but I can't be certain. I tried the system with wire connected and disconnected, no difference.

Other than a freon leak, does anyone have any suggestions on what I can look for? A long weekend in Florida with no A/C isn't much fun...

Thanks,

well if it was the capacitor it would be all swollen up on top. If both compressor and fan does not run then the contactors coil may be bad. Have you carefully tried to push it down manually? 220 will kill you be careful! You may have a bad board or a blown fuse on the board due to the low voltage wires being chewed by animal or weed eater.

Thanks, turns out it was the large line that was leaking, under the house. Had to run all new lines... A bit pricy, but the technician was great and we now have air again.
