Question: Why one of the air conditioners in my house has a fan running, when I leave the power switch on, but set the thermostat at hot position, the air conditioner itself is not running?
Symptom:
There are two central air conditioners in my house. Brand: Luxaire. Model Year: 1987. One is for the 2nd floor and the other one for the 1st and ground floor. Both work fine. When I turn on the power switches (in attic) and set the thermostats at cool position, the air conditioners run and cool air blow into the rooms. But for the 2nd floor air conditioner (MODEL NO. HASE-F036AS; SERIAL NO. EHSM258380), when I leave the power switch on and set the thermostat at hot position, the air conditioner itself does not run, but a fan runs. I can hear the fan running in the attic and from the 2nd floor, but I cannot tell where it exactly locates. The voice from the running fan bothers people. I can only stop the fan by turning off the power switch (in the attic). So each time when I want to use the air conditioner, I have to climb into the attic to turn on the power switch. Each I do not want to use the conditioner but want to stop the fan, I have to climb into the attic again to turn off the power switch. This is very inconvenient. I even broke one sheet rock on the attic floor. The 1st and ground floor air conditioner does not have the problem. When I leave the power switch on (in the attic) and set the thermostat at hot position, the air conditioner itself does not run, and there is no fan running.
Question:
How can I stop the fan stop when I leave the air conditioner power switch on and set thermostat at hot position?

Adam,

Check if the fan switch on the thermostat is in "auto" position. If it's in "manual" - the blower fan will run 24/7.
