Hi,

My outdoor unit is not starting up. I've checked the continuity on the fuses in the disconnect they are fine. The odd thing, it attempts to start -- lights in house gone dim for a moment and I can hear it trying. Once in a while it appears to start and the fan on the outside unit will start spinning, but then it stops after a few minutes. It was working fine during the last time it was hot here in Michigan (about 10 days ago), however today it hit near 100.

I'm wondering if something overheated and burnt out, and yet it will still attempt to start and as I said, sometimes does start -- though I can't tell if it's actually cooling or not.

Any ideas I can try before calling the repair people. My neighbor (who has landlord experience in town) says that outdoor units typically last just 5 years in Michigan.
