Model Number: MGC5536BDS Brand: Maytag Age: 1 - 5 years
hELLO!
Apparently I must have gotten some water while cooking on my Maytag Counter Top 5 burner unit under the range and my electrician suggests that the dampening or water was enough to short out the ignitors... is that possible?!?!? I mean, as a result, I have to get 5 ignitors and 2 spark modules - and I'm not even sure that that's the cause of the problem! Ads By Google Related Models |

It isn't real likely that all the switches, igniters, and both of the spark modules shorted out with just a bit of water. You may be dealing with an accumulation of problems, which can be as simple as dirty igniters. This is very common with cook tops, as we all spill things and food often boils over.
Each switch needs to be tested individually. You may be able to do this on your own, if you have a meter, and can open up the unit to access them. One thing you can do is gently brush the igniters with a stiff toothbrush or a mild wire brush. (Don't overdo it. You just want to clean the surface of the small electrodes.) Make sure the burner surfaces are clean, too, so that a spark can ground to the surface of each one. Don't be afraid to plug it back in...Test each burner switch to see if it is not sparking. Then relay what you find back to us. |
