Default Thermostat or...
Model Number: ACE184XD1   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

In the Summer the AC compressor wouldn't shut off and it iced up, would do fine if you switched it to fan and only let the AC compressor run for 10 or 15 minutes, then turn it to fan only...now when I want heat from it the heater will not come on, fan blows...just no heat. Is this the thermostat or something else tricky?
Thanks a bunch!!
PeggySue

Default could be the stat

It could be the thermostat (AP2944735) causing your problems but it could also be something 'tricky'... I would inspect the wiring connections, thermostat and heating element to determine why there's no heat... You would have to know how to use a volt/ohm meter to troubleshoot this yourself... I would definitely blame the thermostat if the compressor runs when the stat is adjusted to a warm setting in the cooling mode...
