Model Number: ACE124XR0 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
Have Whirlpool Cool and Heat window unit (ACE124XR0). The fan motor recently runs for a time and then quits. If the unit is turned off for a while then it will work again for a while. I removed the unit, took it apart and cleaned it thoroughly. I even took the motor casing apart and cleaned and greased the shafts. After replacing the unit it ran OK for a couple of hours and then the fan stopped again. I took the cover off and tried to turn the blower wheel manually. It was very "stiff". Does the motor heat up and cause the shaft to expand or something like that?? It would seem I should just replace the motor, but don't want to spend money on a part when I don't really understand what is happening. Any suggestions?
