whirlpool standalone a/c unit - burnt rubber smell
Model Number: Acp102pr3 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
i have a whirlpool Acp102pr3 standalone/rollaway AC unit. it hasn't been used for nearly half its life (6 years), meaning we used it for two summers, didn't use it for three, and have now used it for two (including this summer). just this morning after it had been running for an hour we smelled burnt rubber from the air coming out of the vent. i cleaned the filter which was pretty clogged up with dust. i did a google search on this already and it seems it could have something to do with either the fan motor or the fan belt. i found this site by googling the model # and there is a nice diagram of parts one can order but i don't want to start throwing parts at this thing until i know what the problem is; maybe someone can help troubleshoot, or might know the reason this particular unit would throw a smell like burnt rubber?
