Model Number: 10ACC-060-230-02 Brand: -other- Age: 5 - 10 years
Hello,
I've got a Lennox a/c unit (model# 10ACC-060-230-02) on the ground next to my house. It cools fine but when it's on, the compressor makes a loud humming noise; you can hear it from a few houses down the street! Does this mean the compressor's bad or is there an adjustment that can be made? It's about 5-1/2 years old. Thanks. Ads By Google Related Models |

Hey jc, like the other members said it probably just needs an adjustment.
The compressor is a sealed unit within your condensing unit outside and cannot be adjusted but what your problem sounds like is loose compressor mounts or possibly an uneven condensing unit. Make sure the unit is not leaning in any direction, it should be sitting level on the ground. If thats good then make sure the unit is turned off at the thermostat and then pull the fuses at the outside disconnect. Once you are SURE the power is OFF use a 1/4 or 5/16 nut driver remove the panel that allows access to the compressor. The compressor has four little feet with rubber isolators bolted under them. One under each of the four feet. It should be able to move slightly in all directions as long as the line-set allows. If you find it is loose then tighten the bolts a little more snugly, don't reef down on 'em otherwise you will get a vibration that will be louder than you already have. If there are no rubber mounts present then you might be able to find some at the hardware store. You want something comparable to what someone might put under the legs of air compressors. Something that can stand being outside year round. If you try that and it doesn't help and the noise is that bothersome then contact a reputable hvac service company. Btw... just so you know, some units are louder than others and it's okay if the make some noise, they don't call a trane a "train" cuz it's hard to stop... lol Hope that helps you... |
