When the unit's cool or first turned on, it works fine. However, after 5 hrs or so the compressor cuts off until the unit cools down. Could the dual rated run cap make it do this? This particular cap's quite expensive. It's rating is 35-6/370v. Will a 35-7.5/370v one work?

Thanks,

Jim

That capacitor will work, however you are pointing towards a compressor problem.

note that if you have low levels it is what oils the compressor. If it is not cooling like before this could be it. As always clean the unit off.

This has a sealed system, so low refrigerant would mean a leak.
The original posted that it runs for a few hours then stops.
As I stated this is the sign of compressor windings that after running, heat up,expand then cause failure :)

The 35 is the compressor, the 6 you mentioned is the fan...increasing this could cost you a fan motor. replace like for like or a 35/6 for a 35/6. Hope this helps...sounds like maybe the unit needs cleaned or the filter changed. How well is it blowing the air? That will tell you alot.
